Skool

Started school back up again yesterday. It was a bummer to have to leave Jack again in the morning. It's hard enough to do it five days a week, nevermind on Saturday now, too. But I keep thinking that if I just keep plowing through it, it'll be over quickly. Four more of my biz school colleagues are pregnant now, too, so we're all in the same boat.

Jackie had a big day yesterday. We had a trial run with our new nanny, Julie, while mom went out for a few hours. I think it was fate we found Julie. She's a real natural with Jack, and it turns out she has the same birthday that he does in addition to singing the same songs to calm him down that Mommy does. It looks like a great fit, and I'm sure all will work out well when Jenn starts back up at work again in October...boy, that's going to be a tough time...

We have our first vacation next weekend. Jack, Mommy and I are going to Half Moon Bay to stay overnight. The boys are staying with Auntie Lindsay, so wish us luck on our first getaway!

Enfermo

Jackie is sick!

He has a little cold, and is a tiny bit congested. Poor little guy. He seems to be acting OK, but he's got the sniffles. Awww. We're hoping that by cranking the humidifier on high and by him getting some rest, we'll be OK.

Labor Day is coming up. Dare we try to leave for the weekend and take little Jackie somewhere? Hmmm.

Excited though that it's the weekend. We have some nanny appointments, and we get more time to play!

Home of the Whopper

Jack went to the doc's yesterday. 15 pounds 2 ounces. That's a gain of about 1 1/2 pounds in about a month. He's also more than 25" long. He's off the charts, and is essentially the size of a 4 1/2 month old baby at 2 months. Such an overachiever.

Everything is going great. He got his shots yesterday, and was a real trooper about them. Didn't cry too much (although poor Mom did -- it's definitely hard to watch!).

Jack is also working on turning on his side, and even likes to put one foot in front of the other when we stand him up. He even said "Mama" the other day. I'm sure it was a fluke, because he was really saying, "maaaaaaaaaa" and just happened to close his mouth at the opportune time. But it was kinda crazy nevertheless.

Finally had a good sleep last night after moving him to his crib (he's too big for the bassinet). He slept five hours, woke up to eat, and then slept another three or so. Something to build from!

Jack Is Happy

Happy 0.16667 Birthday, Jackie!

Jack is 2 months old today, and he celebrated the morning by giving a birthday speech at about 530am. We proudly listened to his musings on society, fine dining and Italian sculpture during the renaissance period, and admired how far he's come. I'm assuming that's what his speech was about, but I'm not very fluent yet in baby gurgling and cooing.

Jack's favorite game right now is sticking out his tongue. If you look at him, and stick out your tongue, he laughs, and then sticks out his tongue at you. What a comedian. :)

Press your luck

About a week ago, we decided to change Jack's formula since he'd been a little gassy, and we thought he might have an upset stomach. I think we've learned one thing from this -- don't press your luck when you've got a good thing going.

Jack had been sleeping up to 6 hours in a shift at night, getting better every night. As soon as we made the change, we reverted to 1-2 hours for any shift, including nights. Two hours would be generous, even. So after a fairly sleepless weekend, we're moving back to the original formula. I'm sure that shift back will not be fun, too!

Maybe the two things aren't connected, but the timing seems more than serendipitous. Oh well.

But Jack is still a pretty happy little boy, although a little bit more tired than usual.

The other thing that I've been thinking about lately is how much time I get to spend with Jack. The sad truth is that my time with him is limited to a few hours every day, and then weekends. I can't change jobs or anything really to prevent this. That's just life! You're limited to spending a small amount of time with your family, and the rest of it at work or asleep. What's up with that? :(

I wonder if there's a job out there where I can stay at home all day with him, and not really do much of anything, and yet still provide for a comfortable life. Let me know if you hear of anything!
