Not enough time

I'm kinda bummed about the limited amount of time I get with Jack.

I haven't been able to celebrate much of his first Yom Kippur, Arbor Day and Presidential Debates since I've been at work or school. (Heck, we're not even Jewish.) That's not to say that we would've had big celebrations or anything, but there's never enough time for everything. Although I have to admit, I'd probably just spend the day making funny faces with him, or putzing about.

I do love the fact that when he sees me, he usually has this huge smile on his face, which is great. It does make the time we spend pretty special.

One of my former colleagues is taking off about a year or so to spend with his family before going back to work. Not sure that I have that luxury, but I'd love the chance to spend more time with my little Jackie.

Big day

Today was a big day for Jack!

First off, and most importantly, Jack slept through the night! He went to bed around 830pm and woke up at 6am. He was pretty cranky during the day, and didn't nap much, so we're thinking that helped him sleep. I woke up at 3 and 5 because I was worried he hadn't woken up. I wanted to run into the nursery to wake him up, but that was the lack of sleep talking. We'll see if he does it again, but we're pretty realistic about what to expect.

Secondly, today was the nanny's first day! It was really a trial basis since Jenn wanted to run some errands and give Julie some time to figure things out. Next week is Jenn's first week back at work, so it should make for an interesting time.

Little Jack is getting pretty big. His eye color seems to be turning more green. Haven't updated everyone on his favorite things to do these days.

He LOVES the bath. When he goes in, he does his little swimmers, which is basically laughing with tons of splashing and kicking. He loves the water.

He also loves doing Supermans. Basically, I lay on my back, and then pick Jack up and put him in a superman pose over my head. This is as much a game for me as I need to carefully time it so we stop playing Superman just before he throws up. Today, there was a 10-second delay from end-of-superman to throw up. Not bad, not bad at all.

Jack is pretty big. He's bigger than 5-month old kids. In fact, he's nearly as long as a friend of mine's two-year-old daughter. Granted, she's pretty tiny, but Jack is one big boy!

Jack's First Vacation

Jack went on his first vacation this weekend. He took his parents to Half Moon Bay, where he saw the ocean for the very first time! Given that it was so smoking hot in the valley, our vacation away went great.

Jenn and I had our first dinner away from Jack when his grandparents showed up to babysit. Jenn and I actually got dressed up and went upstairs to Navio for a nice dinner while watching the sunset. However, we couldn't escape babyland, given the presence of three other babies in the restaurant. It was nice though to know that Jackie was in good hands, and we didn't have to worry about him.

On our walks, Jack got to try out a couple of hats, and needless to say, he wasn't too happy with them. I don't blame them. One of them made him look like he just walked off the set of Lawrence of Arabia. :)

Jack finally got to wear his sailor outfit that I bought him from that frenchy store at Santana Row. What stinks though is that he's already a bit too big for the shirt (it's for 3-6 months old). Are French kids just tiny gnomes or something? It's a little sad to have to put Jack's baby clothes away as he grows older. I wish he could stay our tiny little boy forever.

It was a good time for us to get away. Makes us excited to look forward to our next vacation, wherever it may be.
