It's hard to believe that Jack's first Christmas and New Year's have come and gone. He had a great time over the last two weeks, spending all the extra time with Mommy and Daddy in addition to all the great family who were in town to share this time with him.
Jack raked it in, although I think people were pretty good at not spoiling this kid too much. He will be hanging around in stylin' duds, though, that's for sure.
Lots of Jack news going on these days. Rolling back and forth. He's starting to figure out how to move around a little bit. He lays on his back, and thrusts his hips in the air, and moves ahead about an inch at a time.
Speaking of mobility, Jack's also going gangbusters in his Exersaucer. He jumps up and down in it, and moves around a couple inches every time. It sounds like he's going to destroy it, but it's funny to watch him scoot along.
Jack's also sitting straight up and can play by himself with his toys for 15-30 minutes at a time. It's neat to see him just playing away, chewing on everything he can, and just happy to be around.
All he got for Christmas were his two front teeth. OK, they were just the bottom ones, but we can no longer put our fingers in his mouth for him to chew on. It hurts! He likes to chew on metal spoons for some reason, which just makes me cringe when I hear him chomp down with his teeth. We don't let him do that much, since we're trying to minimize orthodontist visits.
For Christmas, I put together another DVD for the family as a little Jack gift. Looking over the footage for the last few months, it's amazing how quickly he's really growing up and out. He's a big kid! Usually the first comments from friends seeing our Christmas pictures are "He's so cute," which is quickly followed by, "and he's SOOO BIG!" That's our bruiser.
Jack did all of the holiday traditions. He saw Santa for the first time, and had a lot of fun taking his picture with Santa, although Santa looked like he was on crystal meth, or something. We also went for a sleigh ride in downtown Willow Glen. Not quite the snowy sleighride of Colorado, but Jack loved it.
Jack's also been advancing on the piano. The strangest thing happened the other day. While I was playing chopsticks with him on my lap. He leaned over, and banged on the piano in a pattern. He hit it five times, consecutively moving toward the left of the keyboard. When I got to the same place in the song again, he did the same thing. He did this pattern about 4 times until I wised up and tried to record it. I didn't capture what he did, but I did get a pretty amusing recording of our interpretative duet of "Chopsticks." You can
listen to it here.
The holiday went by too fast, and work and school are around the corner. I really enjoyed just staying at home with little Jack, and can't wait for the next break to do the same thing.
